How to share it?

There really is so much to say about obituaries because each day brings a swathe of fresh life stories about people many of us have never heard of. For example, CNN camera operator Margaret Gipsy Moth remembered today in the New York Times’ excellent obituary section, Overlooked No More. Or wildlife cameraman Doug Allan who died recently after falling ill in Nepal.

But how to share this information? Yes, I have this page but to really get it out there, one needs to consider social media of some kind and what works best for obituaries? I am no longer on X and I rarely engage with Bluesky but lately I have become enthralled by Substack because there is just so much sensational information to be found there! So much information, in fact, that it’s almost overwhelming.

So, why would I want to add to that? Yes, I'm considering a Substack column that basically duplicates what I’m writing here on this blog. This page is serving primarily as a portal to showcase my love for obits but really, is anyone looking at it? I think Substack could be a better portal to sharing everything obituary but … I am nervous to write so publicly, even though my byline is on several published obituaries already. Why do I feel this way?

In other news, I am conducting a memorial service on Friday. A memorial service with a strict time limit that I am working with the family to manage, but it’s difficult because they have a lot they want to say about this man they loved so much! I’m staying confident that it will all go perfectly well.
